The Victorian Era is named after Queen Victoria, whose reign over Great Britain lasted from 1837 til her death in 1901.​

The Victorian Era jewelry period is divided into 3 periods:  The Romantic Period (c. 1837-1860), The Grand Period (c. 1860-1885), and The Aesthetic Period (c. 1885-1901), with each period having its own distinct characteristics.
